From Abdullahi Idris, Bauchi

The Bauchi State Government, has dissolved the management committee of Wikki Tourists Football Club with immediate effect, following the club’s relegation from the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League to the Nigeria National League.

Governor Bala Mohammed, approved the dissolution after a review of the club’s poor performance and the government’s interventions to keep it in the top flight.

The government said the decision aims to reposition the club, restore public confidence, and lay a foundation for its return to the NPFL.

Throughout the season, the state provided financial and administrative support to boost the club’s competitiveness. As relegation loomed, it also set up a rescue team to work with the management committee. The measures failed to save the club from the drop.

To manage the transition, Governor Mohammed has appointed Haruna Bako, former Bauchi State Director of Sports, as Interim Sole Administrator, pending the constitution of a new management team.

Bako will take charge of the club’s operations immediately. His tasks include overseeing the handover of assets, records, and liabilities, and initiating measures to improve performance ahead of the new NNL season.

The government thanked the outgoing management committee led by Salmanu Abubakar, for its service and wished members well in future endeavours.

It restated its commitment to reviving Wikki Tourists and said it will take all necessary steps to ensure the club returns to the NPFL as soon as possible.
