Lucky Jacob wins bronze for Kogi State at Diri Wrestling Classics

Head Coach of Kogi State Wrestling Association, Ologunja Ojo John, has recorded another proud moment on the national stage for the state, as he led Team Kogi to pick a bronze medal at the just concluded 4th Governor Douye Diri National Wrestling Classics, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The championship was organised by the Bayelsa State Government, through the Ministry of Sports Development in collaboration with the Nigeria Wrestling Federation.

In the 34kg Greco Roman Wrestling style, Lucky Jacob of Kogi State won bronze to put the state on the medals table.

Overall, Kogi State was represented by eight wrestlers and two officials at the tournament which began on March 25, ended on April 1.

Reacting, Head Coach of Kogi State Wrestling Association, Ologunja Ojo John, appealed for support from privileged individuals, groups and government to boost the sports in the state as well as boost participation in tournaments of this nature while at the same time empowering young athletes through sporting activities in the state.

At the end of the tournament, Team Bayelsa emerged overall champions, while Dynamite Club and the Nigerian Army secured second and third positions respectively.

The championship will serve as a selection platform for Nigeria’s representatives to the African Wrestling Championships in Alexandria, Egypt, scheduled for late April to early May.
