…marking 20 years of Nigeria’s Space Economy

From David Onuoja, Abuja

The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT), has said, it is set to host the second edition of the Nigerian Satellite Week (NSATWK 2026) on March 30-31, 2026, in Abuja.

According to a press statement issued and signed by Stephen Kwande, Head of Corporate Communications, NIGCOMSAT Abuja, said, the event will mark a significant milestone in Nigeria’s space economy, with the country celebrating twenty years of sovereign satellite capability.

NSATWK 2026 is expected to draw a high-level gathering of cabinet ministers, defence leadership, development finance institutions, satellite operators, and deep-tech startups from across Africa. The event will also provide a platform for shaping policy, forging commercial partnerships, and showcasing the next generation of space-tech entrepreneurs.

NIGCOMSAT has grown from a single-satellite operator to a multi-service provider delivering connectivity, broadcasting, and broadband services across Nigeria and the continent. The organization’s revenue has doubled, and it has secured a landmark Low Earth Orbit (LEO) connectivity partnership with Eutelsat.

This event will feature a Startup Demo Day, Stakeholders Forum, and Gala Night, recognizing institutions, policymakers, and individuals who have contributed to Nigeria’s space economy. The launch of Accelerator Cohort 3.0 will support early-stage ventures in satellite applications, last-mile connectivity, and digital logistics.

Those expected to be in attendance include: the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the Director-General of NITDA, highlighting the significance of satellite infrastructure in Nigeria’s national development agenda.

Speaking on the event, the NIGCOMSAT’s Managing Director, Jane Egerton-Idehen, emphasised that the event marks not just longevity but the compounding return on Nigeria’s decision to own its place in space. “This is where we bring that work into full view and define what the next twenty years will demand of us,” she said.

The NSATWK 2026 will showcase Nigeria’s satellite ecosystem and highlight the country’s position in the global space economy. With the Accelerator Cohort 3.0, NIGCOMSAT is investing in the next generation of space-economy companies.

This is a testament to Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging space-based technology as a driver of economic transformation. As the country looks to the future, and NSATWK 2026 will play a significant role in shaping the country’s space economy.

NIGCOMSAT is Nigeria’s national satellite operator, delivering satellite-based services to government, enterprise, and telecoms clients across Nigeria, Africa, and beyond.
