Kwara Fire Service recovers two bodies from Quarry Lake

The Kwara State Fire Service, has recovered the bodies of two young men who drowned in a quarry lake at Opete area of Asa Local Government Area of the state.

The tragic incident occurred recently prompting an emergency response from the state fire service.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the agency, Hassan Adekunle, firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene upon receiving the distress call.

He said the rescue team carried out a recovery operation and successfully retrieved the bodies of the victims, identified as 26-year-old Fatai Abdulraman and 27-year-old Muhammed Awal.

The statement noted that the remains of the deceased were subsequently handed over to a relative, Mallam Abdulfatahi, for burial arrangements.

Reacting to the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, CFS Alabi Muhammed, expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate loss of lives.

He warned members of the public to desist from swimming or engaging in activities in quarry lakes and other unsafe water bodies, describing them as dangerous due to their depth and unstable nature.

The director also urged community leaders and residents to restrict access to such hazardous locations and to promptly report emergencies to relevant authorities to prevent avoidable tragedies.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Kwara State Fire Service to protecting lives and responding swiftly to emergencies across the state.
