In a rare demonstration of compassion, the Wife of Kogi State Governor, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, has visited the Nigeria correctional centre in Achoze, Okene, where she distributed assorted food items worth millions of naira to inmates at the facility.

Hajia Sefinat, who was represented by the wife of the Kogi state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Princess Karimat Abdullahi, said the gesture was aimed at alleviating the plight of inmates with special attention to nursing mothers among them.

The first lady emphasised that her visit was intended to bring a renewed sense of hope to those held within the facility, assuring inmates that they remain visible and valued members of society despite their circumstances.

The wife of the governor, urged the inmates to use their time at the facility to reflect on their lives, embrace positive attitudes, and take full advantage of skills acquisition and vocational training programmes available to them.

She stressed that their rehabilitation and eventual reintegration into society remained a priority to the government.

Hajia Sefinat further promised sustained support to the facility, including the provision of vocational training equipment, medications, and other essential items for the wellbeing of inmates.

Receiving the items, the Officer in Charge, Assistant Comptroller of Corrections (ACC), Owolagba Augustine, who pledged that the items will be judiciously used, described the visit as one of a kind, noting that the delegation’s presence served as a significant morale booster to both personnel and inmates.

The items presented comprises of 30 bags of 50kg of rice, 30 cartons of spaghetti, 30 packs of banana flour, 30 bags of wheat, 20 cartons of Indomie noodles, 30 bags of Semovita, 40 tubers of yam, 2 cartons of vegetable oil, cartons of Maggi seasoning cubes, 2 bags of garri, clothings and ready-to eat food items for children, detergents, underwears, and cash donations.
