From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), in Kwara State, have arrested two suspected bandits during a security operation in Saminaka community in Patigi Local Government Area, recovering a pistol and other items from the suspects.

The suspects, Abubakar Jubril, 28, and Mohammed Abubakar, 26, were apprehended recently following intelligence gathered by security operatives who had been monitoring suspicious movements in the area.

According to the NSCDC, the suspects were among three individuals spotted in a location described as volatile. While two of them were successfully arrested, the third suspect managed to escape and is currently being tracked by security operatives.

Items recovered from the suspects include a pistol with serial number 7886 reportedly made in the United States, a mobile phone, as well as substances suspected to be tramadol and cigarettes.

Speaking while parading the suspects at the command headquarters on Friday, the Kwara State Commandant of the NSCDC, Bala Bawa Bodinga, said the arrests were made possible through sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance.

Bodinga reiterated the command’s resolve to intensify efforts to combat criminal activities across the state and ensure the safety of residents.

He warned individuals involved in criminal activities to desist, stressing that the corps would continue to pursue offenders until they are brought to justice.

The commandant also appealed to members of the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information that could help prevent crime.

“Our operations will continue across the state to rid our communities of criminal elements. Anyone involved in unlawful activities should desist or be ready to face the full weight of the law,” Bodinga said.

He added that the suspects would be charged to court after investigations are concluded or transferred to the appropriate security agency for further investigation.
