… as APC holds peaceful congress

From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has said his administration has set a high standard for good governance in the state, urging his successor to take it further.

Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) state congress in Ilorin, the Governor highlighted achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social welfare as evidence of transformative leadership.

AbdulRazaq noted that his administration had upgraded roads, schools, and hospitals, and strengthened revenue systems and social security for residents. He said his focus has always been on leaving a lasting legacy rather than creating a political dynasty.

“Congratulations for our journey so far. Congratulations for being able to meet here peacefully and successfully today. I’ll give us a pass mark,” he said. “We have done exceedingly well over the past six years, with greater investments across sectors than what we inherited. But we will not be complacent. We must work harder and build on these achievements.”

The Governor also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his leadership and reform efforts, describing the APC as a party with a clear roadmap for national development. “Nationally, you can see inflation has dropped, exchange rates are stabilizing, GDP is improving, and growth is picking up. The President is doing well, and our party is moving Nigeria forward,” he said.

He called for peaceful primaries ahead of upcoming elections, urging party members to support whoever emerges as candidates. “Those that succeed in picking party tickets, we wish them good luck and encourage them to carry along those who do not. APC is a party for all,” AbdulRazaq added.

AbdulRazaq concluded by urging his successor to continue raising the bar for governance in Kwara, emphasising that the work of transforming the state is an ongoing journey.

Speaking at the same event, APC State Chairman, Sunday Fagbemi, highlighted the party’s achievements in Kwara under AbdulRazaq’s administration, including the construction of 586 kilometer of roads, the hiring of 8,912 teachers, and a record-low child mortality rate.

Fagbemi, who was re-elected as chairman, described the congress as a vote of confidence in the party’s leadership.

The event brought together top state officials, lawmakers, party leaders, and dignitaries, including Deputy Governor, Kayode Alabi, Speaker, Salihu Yakubu Danladi, and Senators Lola Ashiru, Suleiman Sadiq Umar, and Saliu Mustapha.

Dr. Alkali Alibe, chairman of the congress committee, said the exercise reflected the party constitution and the political consolidation achieved in the state.

“Kwara State has been consolidating politically under your leadership. People are happy under your stewardship, and we can see evidence of this in every part of the state we have visited,” Alibe said.
