Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has paid glowing tribute to a forest guard, Mr. Omotosho Olawuyi Samuel, who was killed during a fierce encounter with suspected kidnappers in Koro community, Ekiti Local Government Area, describing him as a hero in the state’s ongoing battle against banditry.
Samuel reportedly lost his life while confronting the criminals alongside fellow forest guards and local vigilantes in a bid to protect residents of the area. The Governor said the late operative’s courage and patriotism reflect the sacrifice being made daily by local security outfits to keep communities safe.
Reacting to the incident, AbdulRazaq commended the bravery of the forest guards and vigilantes who engaged the fleeing kidnappers, noting that their swift response underscores the importance of community-based security architecture in complementing conventional security agencies.
“He is our hero, and we ask God to give succour to his family,” the Governor said in a statement.
As a mark of honour and appreciation for the fallen guard’s sacrifice, the Governor announced a N10 million support package for his family.
He described the gesture as a token of the state government’s gratitude and solidarity, adding that Samuel’s name would be remembered in Kwara’s collective struggle against insecurity.
The Governor also extended his condolences to the bereaved family and to the colleagues who stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the deceased during the operation, assuring them that the state government remains committed to strengthening security across all communities.
