From David Onuoja, Abuja

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has commenced  Management Retreat, aimed at reviewing the Agency’s performance in the previous operational year and setting strategic priorities for enhanced service delivery in 2026 and beyond.

The retreat provides a critical platform for senior and middle level management to reflect on achievements recorded, assess challenges encountered, and collectively chart a more effective and results-driven path forward for the Agency.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Director General of NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar, stated that the objective of the gathering is to critically review the activities undertaken in the last operational year and develop actionable strategies for the current year, in line with NEMA’s mandate to strengthen disaster preparedness, response coordination, and institutional performance nationwide.

She equally emphasised that as disaster risks become increasingly complex and interconnected, NEMA must remain proactive, strategic, and cohesive in its operations, stressing the importance of aligning planning, implementation, and performance management across all departments and operations offices.

Zubaida Umar also said that the retreat underscores the Agency’s commitment to continuous improvement, accountability, and results-driven leadership.

In his remarks, the Director of Human Resource Management, Dr. Emenike Umesi, explained that the retreat is being guided by clearly defined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), to ensure objective assessment of departmental outputs, promote efficiency, and maintain high standards in both operational and administrative functions.
