From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

A non-governmental organisation, Greater Kwara Foundation, has extended humanitarian support to orphanage homes in Ilorin, Kwara State.

This is part of activities under its Renewed Hope Orphanage Tour, aimed at promoting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The foundation, working in collaboration with the Tinubu 2027 Renewed Hope Agenda, visited four orphanage centres across Ilorin metropolis, where food items, toiletries and cash were distributed to support vulnerable children.

Speaking during the visit to Olufolake Safe Haven Orphanage, one of the sponsors of the foundation, Dr Oluwatoyin Alabi, said the outreach was designed to demonstrate President Tinubu’s concern for the welfare of the less privileged in society.

According to her, the gesture reflected the President’s commitment to social inclusion and care for vulnerable groups, particularly children without parental support.

“We are here on behalf of President Bola Tinubu to show that his heart is with you and with all the less privileged. This support is to ensure proper feeding, comfort and overall well-being of the children,” Alabi said.

She added that the Renewed Hope initiative would not be a one-off intervention, assuring that similar support would continue throughout the year across different parts of Kwara State.

Receiving the delegation, the Director of Women Affairs in Kwara State, Mrs Idris Modinat, who spoke on behalf of the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Folashade Oluwakemi, commended the foundation for complementing government efforts in social welfare.

She noted that the initiative aligned with the social protection and welfare policies of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration, particularly in caring for vulnerable children.

At the Children Reception Centre along Pipeline Road, Ilorin, the officer in charge, Jaiyeola Olawunmi, described the intervention as timely, stressing that the centre was grappling with increasing welfare needs.

She said the donations would ease some of the burdens faced by the facility in catering for the children under its care.

Similarly, at the City of Refuge Orphanage, Gaa Akanbi, off Pipeline Road, the official in charge, Mrs Precious, expressed excitement over the visit, noting that the support would boost the morale of the children and give them a sense of belonging.

At Takasco Life Care Initiative, Budo Ode/Ita Elepa, Mrs Mijisola Balogun, thanked the foundation for the gesture, saying the items would significantly support the daily needs of the children in the centre.

Items donated during the tour included 25 bags of 10kg rice, cartons of spaghetti and instant noodles, detergents, bags of semovita, sweets and cash support.
