From Taiye Joseph

The Department of State Services ( DSS), has arrested a medical doctor alleged to be a key link in supplying essential drugs to kidnapping gangs operating across parts of Kwara State.

The suspect was intercepted in the Jebba axis after intelligence revealed that he routinely transported medical supplies from Sokoto to criminal hideouts in the state.

Security sources, said the arrest followed weeks of monitoring the doctor’s movements and his suspected connection with kidnap syndicates seeking treatment for wounded members.

According to a DSS official, the heightened demand for medical attention among the criminals stems from injuries sustained during repeated clashes with security operatives. “Many of these gangs are desperate for medical care because some of their members have gunshot wounds from encounters with security forces,” the official disclosed.

He added that health workers and facilities in remote and forested communities should remain vigilant. “We are advising improved security measures in health facilities in thickly forested areas which the kidnappers may target,” he warned.

The arrest is expected to aid ongoing efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks in Kwara and safeguard vulnerable communities.
