As part of efforts to promote a safer world, Kogi State’s Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes Project (ACReSAL), has intensified its campaign against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), a challenge that continues to threaten communities across Nigeria.

To drive home this message, Kogi ACReSAL recently organised an awareness road walk in Kabba town, bringing together project officers, civil society members, and community representatives in a strong display of solidarity against GBV.

The road walk, which commenced at the Local Government Secretariat, focused squarely on the recurring problem of gender-based violence.

Participants marched through the town, raising awareness on the need to address conflicts within homes, schools, workplaces, and public spaces.

Speaking during the exercise, Mrs. Vivien Yunusa, the Project’s Grievance Redress Officer, who represented the Project Coordinator, Barrister Ladi Jatto, highlighted the devastating impact of GBV.

She noted that both men and women are affected and emphasised that labour influx on project contract sites is being closely monitored to prevent abuse and inequality.

She further stressed that gender-based violence is not restricted to public spaces but often occurs within families, schools, and offices, making it a societal problem that requires collective action.

The Project Coordinator urged victims to always seek support and guidance whenever they experience or witness cases of GBV, insisting that silence only emboldens perpetrators.

It would be recalled that Kogi ACReSAL had earlier staged a similar awareness walk in Lokoja, the state capital.
